A Refreshing Greeting
Last week my family and I watched The Christmas Carol play. It was a fantastic production of Charles Dickens’ classic. It’s so refreshing to hear the actors say “Merry Christmas” without cringing or sidestepping those words.
(We don't get snow in California so even fake snow is Exciting!)

I was recently at a coffee shop and right after I ordered the cashier greeted me “Happy Holidays.” That may be a company policy and their job may depend on following those rules. But it just did not have the same gravitas and effect as saying “Merry Christmas” (especially for Christians). To me, saying “Happy Holidays” is like the end of a date night: the guy gives the girl a Christian side hug and wishes her “goodnight.” Then in return the girl says “same to you.” Similar message, but there's no joy in those words.
My Epiphany
The Bible says God’s word is sharper than any two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12), and this is an example of it. Since we are a family owned Christian store, we make the company policy =). We’ve modified the North Arrow Shop logo for the Christmas season. If a Christian company can’t say “Merry Christmas” then who can? The order confirmation email also includes the same message.
Matthew 1:23
“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us).
As Tiny Tim said “Merry Christmas to us all and God bless us everyone!”
